My Top 5 Thrash Metal Albums

5. Megadeth - Rust In Peace.

Megadeth hail from Los Angeles and are part of the well known big four. Megadeth are known for speed and technicality and this is demostrated on 1990’s Rust In Peace. Hailed by fans and critics alike for its maelstrom of riffs and explosive solos. Track after track is filled with excellent musicianship and this is truly a must have for every budding thrash fan.

4. Rigor Mortis - Rigor Mortis.

Rigor Mortis came from Texas an area which has produced very few thrash bands. The album takes hold of you straight away with the instrumental opener “Welcome To Your Funeral” right through to the final moments of “Die In Pain”. The album is a relentless assault of excellent riffs. The album is very consistent throughout and is perhaps the best album to define what thrash metal is.

3. Coroner - R.I.P.

Coroner came from Switzerland. They worked for Celtic Frost as roadcrew before deciding to form their own band. Coroner are considered the Kings of Tech Thrash. This Sub-Genre is highlighted by excellent musicianship. On R.I.P. Coroner unleash some of the most brutal, heavy and explosive thrash metal. R.I.P. also features some of the best solos in all of thrash metal. This is an under-appreciated thrash gem.

2. Dark Angel - Darkness Descends.

Not much can be said about this album that hasn’t already been said. Every thrash fan in the World owns a copy of this album and for good reason. The album is a very heavy thrash record which sounds a bit like Slayer and Coroner merged together. 1. Morbid Saint - Spectrum Of Death

Brutal Thrash!! Morbid Saint are mostly known for opening for Death. This album has everything a thrash metal album should have. The vocalist Pat Lind sounds like a mix of Chuck Shuldiner and Mille Petrozza. The guitars are fast and evil and the rhythm section is as tight as any other thrash band. The album is perfection from start to finish and is cited as an influence from many famous musicians.
